Lady Pats win region; Goddard top player

The goal was to win the region. Mission accomplished.   The Oglethorpe County girls basketball team captured the Class 5-A Division 1 championship with a 52-39 victory over Prince Avenue Christian School on Friday night at Social Circle High School.

Basketball teams play for 5-A titles   The Oglethorpe County girls basketball team advanced to the Region 5-A Division I championship game with a 67-23 victory over Jasper County on Tuesday night.

Wrestlers head to state on roll

Oglethorpe County High School will send 12 wrestlers to the Class A Traditional Championships this weekend in Macon. The Patriots sent 16 wrestlers to sectionals this past weekend, with all but four advancing the state tournament.

Prep Roundup: Lady Patriots remain undefeated in region

Kenzie Henderson scored 19 points, had seven rebounds and 11 steals to lead Oglethorpe County to a 66-23 victory over Jasper County on Tuesday night.   The Lady Patriots improved to 15-8 and 5-0 in Region 5-A Division I heading into the final regular-season game at Social Circle on Friday.

Wrestling team qualifies

Raymond Bentley II, Miles Mason and Tanner Mask won individual titles to propel the Oglethorpe County wrestling team to its fourth consecutive area championship on Saturday.   The Patriots qualified all 14 wrestlers to finish with 239.5 points and defeat host Commerce (218.5), Elbert County (150.

Jayland Richardson and KB Bonds made their college decisions last week.    Richardson signed with Central Georgia Technical College in Macon, saying his favorite part of the process was “seeing my hard work over the years on and off the field finally paying off.

Q&A: Winsett keeps folks on the move

Debbie Winsett, who teaches line dancing at the Oglethorpe County Recreation Department and the American Legion, has been dancing for six years, but started teaching four years ago. Winsett spoke with The Oglethorpe Echo about her class and what she loves about teaching dance.
