Prep Roundup: Gabriel’s 18 points spark Patriots

Carlie Gabriel scored 18 points to lead the Oglethorpe County girls basketball team to a 53-39 victory over Social Circle on Friday night. Gabriel added seven assists and five rebounds in the victory. Elin Turner had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Despite youth, boys wrestling continues to set lofty goals

After a 21-6 record in his first season as the Oglethorpe County boys wrestling coach, Steve Mason must turn elsewhere for production. “We have approximately 30 young men, but a lot of new wrestlers, a lot of them that have actually never wrestled before,” he said.

Season ends with playoff loss to Elbert County

A 24-7 loss to Elbert County in the first round of the Class A Division I playoffs Friday night ended the Patriots’ hopes of a postseason run. But for the nine seniors who endured the heartache of an 0-10 season in 2024, this year’s playoff appearance felt like retribution.

Seniors look to spark a girls basketball rebound

Coming off their first losing season (6-18) since 2019-20, the Oglethorpe County girls basketball team is looking to bounce back, led by strong freshman and senior classes.

Prep roundup: Adams, Tillman lead cross country team to state meet

The Oglethorpe County cross country team advanced to the Class A Division I state meet after finishing sixth out of 21 teams at the Class A sectionals at Jeff Davis High School on Saturday.  John Adams was sixth in 17:23.30, followed by Cory Tillman in 19th at 19:09.80. Josiah Young was 46th (19:26.

Pats’ belief in themselves powers state playoff berth

Oglethorpe County is headed back to the Granite Bowl. The Patriots will play at Elbert County in the first round of the Class A Division I playoffs (7:30 p.m. Nov. 14), meaning another trip to the Granite Bowl, where they lost 27-0 in a Region 8-A Division I game on Sept. 19.

Rec cheer squads shine in strong performances

The Oglethorpe County Recreation Department cheerleading teams have started strong, with four podium finishes and three wins in their first two events. Oglethorpe County has two teams, one competing in the 12u division and the other in the 9u division.

Prep Roundup: Playoff opponent unknown until after final week

Oglethorpe County is heading to Class A Division I playoffs, but the Patriots’ seeding and opponent won’t be decided until after Friday’s regular-season finales. “I think when we looked at it, there were about six possibilities,” coach Michael Holland said Monday.

OCHS volleyball wins state championship

CARTERSVILLE — The Class A state volleyball title belongs to Oglethorpe County. The Lady Patriots defeated Bremen 3-1 on Wednesday to capture their first volleyball state championship.
