Family Ties: Pass Brothers excel together on the field

For Oglethorpe County football, the word Pass has an additional significance.  Nicah Pass, a junior defensive back and wide receiver, broke up a potential touchdown pass to help save the Patriots’ first win since the 2023-24 season.

That’s two in a row for the Patriots. Caden Hartrum and Jackson Tatum each scored two touchdowns to lead OCHS to a 42-12 win over Washington-Wilkes on Friday night. Paris Crowder and O’Maury Huggs also scored.

The Oglethorpe County Middle School football game at Banks County was rescheduled to Sept. 4 because of lightning. The OCMS volleyball A team lost in two sets to Haymon Morris on Aug. 20 and two of three sets to Russell on Aug. 25.

Prep Roundup: Adams finishes 12th in cross country meet

John Adams was just five seconds from his PR from last year with a time of 18:19 to finish 12th at Tallulah Falls on Aug. 20. He led the Oglethorpe County boys cross country team to a 12th-place finish despite missing two of its top runners.

News Roundup: Dove season to start Sept. 6

Dove season will start on Sept. 6. There are three dove windows this year: The first is Sept. 6 through Oct. 12, the second is Nov. 22-30 and the third is Dec. 19-Jan. 31. Statewide shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. The bag limit is 15 per day.

Patriots pull off big win

Huggs is ‘glue guy’ for football, basketball teams

O’Maury Huggs has built his reputation on doing the hard things.  Whether it’s lowering his shoulder for extra yards on Friday nights or battling in the paint on the basketball court, the Oglethorpe County senior has carved out a role as a leader and anchor for two Patriot programs.

Father, daughter duo share special bond

Senior Reese Campbell is the star pitcher for the Oglethorpe County softball team. She isn’t the only Campbell on the field, though.  Her father, Mike Campbell, is an assistant coach for the team and head coach for the OCHS baseball team.

Patriots look to ‘band together’ this season

Despite a 37-6 loss to Social Circle in last week’s opener, Oglethorpe County football coach Michael Holland said he believes the Patriots have come a long way since last season. “Nobody likes losing a game, but they’re ready to work,” he said. “We’ll just keep chopping wood.
