Q&A: Sanders: Ready for new job

Howard Sanders won the District 1 runoff for the Oglethorpe County Commission last week. The 63-year-old poultry farmer and former county coroner has lived in Oglethorpe County most of his life and now resides in the Salem community. He’s married with four children and 10 grandchildren.

Recount confirms District 1 outcome

A recount of the votes cast in the Oglethorpe County Commission District 1 runoff confirmed that Howard Sanders defeated Phil Sanders 140-133 for the seat.   The recount, which was called by the Board of Elections, occurred on June 22, the morning after the election.

County property taxes on the rise

Sanders cousins prepared for runoff

The Oglethorpe County District 1 Board of Commissioners runoff will be decided between incumbent Lewis “Phil” Sanders and Howard Sanders during the runoff election on Tuesday, June 21.   The cousins feel confident about their campaigns and have been competitive while remaining friendly relatives.

News Roundup: Early voting to begin Monday

Early voting for the general primary runoff for the county commission District 1 seat between incumbent Phil Sanders and challenger Howard Sanders will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, June 13 at the Board of Elections office.   Early voting will continue through Friday, June 17.

Incumbents successful in county primary election

Representation for Districts 3 and 5 in Oglethorpe County will not see changes — both for the Board of Commissioners and Board of Education. However, there will be a runoff between incumbent Lewis “Phil” Sanders and Howard Sanders to decide the District 1 Commissioner race.
