Telkia Tristan "TK" Steward, 56, of Athens died April 1, 2026. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026 at New Hope Baptist Church. Pastor Justin McCalla was the eulogist.

Obituary: Telluise S. Oglesby

Telluise Oglesby, 46, of Colbert died April 9, 2026. A farewell viewing service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2026 at Jones Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday April 25 at Master's Domain Cogic in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sports hall of fame nominations end May 2

Nominations are being accepted for the Oglethorpe County High School Sports Hall of Fame through May 2. The hall recognizes individuals (athletes, coaches and community members) who have made significant contributions to the OCHS athletic program between 1970 and 2020.

LOCAL ROUNDUP: Trail walks on Smokey Road, Maxeys planned for Saturday

Firefly Trail Inc. has helped organize group walks for Smokey Road in Crawford and in Maxeys as part of Celebrate Trails Day on Saturday, April 25. The walk on Smokey Road will start at 9 a.m. and the one in Maxeys will begin at 11 a.m. Maxeys, where 1.

Sintyl to run against Saxon in District 2

Williamson Sintyl said he’ll run against incumbent Andy Saxon for the District 2 seat on the Oglethorpe County Board of Commissioners.   Sintyl, 30 and a native of Haiti, was selected as the chairman of the Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce last month.

Staff Report: Community Day set for Aug. 5

The Oglethorpe County Com- munity Day and Family Movie Night has been set for Saturday, Aug. 5 at Bryan Park.   Community Day is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m. and the fami- ly friendly movie night will start at sunset.   The event is free.

Rooster closed as deMarrais recovers

The Rowdy Rooster in Lexington will be closed until further notice while co-owner Kathleen deMarrais recovers from injuries she sustained in a fall on vacation in Greece.   She posted on Facebook last week that she fractured her pelvis and suffered a head injury.

OCHS runners win 5-A

Luke McGarity and Sydnie Henderson won the Region 5-A Division I individual cross country titles to lead Oglethorpe County to the boys and girls team championships on Tuesday.   McGarity won his third individual championship with a time of 17:35 and Henderson finished in 20:43.

News Roundup: Community Christmas requests donations

Community Christmas of Oglethorpe County co-director Catherine Drewry said the organization is accepting toys, clothes and monetary donations as it begins to prepare for the holiday season.   “We’re hearing about more and more families who need help,” Drewry said this week.
