‘Old school’ is out: Gorman retires after 41 years at Conwed

Danny Gorman describes himself as someone who dislikes change. This can be seen in multiple decades-long commitments in his life.  He’s lived in Maxeys for 35 years, married to his high school sweetheart for over 46 years and, until last Monday, he had worked at the same company for 41 years.

Tillman goes from OCHS track to win Maxeys 5K

Cory Tillman, fresh off running for the Oglethorpe County track and field team, won the seventh annual Maxeys Model Mile 5K on Saturday. Tillman, who will be a senior at OCHS in the fall, finished with a time of 19 minutes, 40 seconds.

Local Roundup: Bramblett to perform at Marigold Festival

Randall Bramblett will headline the music portion of the annual Marigold Festival, which will be held Saturday at Pittard Park. Bramblett, a longtime Athens musician, will cap the festivities, which include a parade, vendors and food trucks. The vendors will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Toledano only candidate for Maxeys mayor

Seven candidates are eligible to run for six posts in Maxeys’ election on Nov. 5. Qualifying for the 2024 race took place last week at city hall. The positions include mayor and all city council seats. The fee was $1.

Maxeys 5K next race in Firefly Trail series

Anne Garner had an idea after moving from metro Atlanta to about 5 miles south of Maxeys about six years ago. She noticed few race opportunities in Oglethorpe County and wanted to start one.
