Prep Roundup: Girls track rolls in region tune-up meet

Elin Turner won the 100-meter hurdles and the 800 meters to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track team to victory in the Lincoln County Region Tune-up meet on April 18.

Marin Sampson, Eve Myers and Khloe Eidson scored goals to lead the Oglethorpe County girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Jasper County on April 8.   The Lady Patriots trailed 2-1 before rallying for the victory.     Emily Forschler assisted on the goals.

Patriots in fight to finish for region title

The Region 5-A Division I boys soccer title will come down to Oglethorpe County’s final regular-season game on Thursday, April 11, when the Patriots host Jasper County.    “We just need to win and keep them from scoring,” head coach Erich Forschler said.

Rec night gives taste of OCHS soccer experience

  Cassandra Fabrizio’s oldest kids, Ryley and Wyatt, dream of being soccer phenoms. While playing on Oglethorpe County rec teams, their parents want them to be exposed to a higher level of play to prepare for what’s to come.

Prep Roundup: Girls track team off to strong start

Denim Goddard and Zy’Kieria Edwards each won two individual events to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track team to a victory in the Loch Johnson Invitational at Cedar Shoals on March 16.    The Lady Panthers won the event with 155 points to outdistance Towers, which had 122 points.

Forschler takes on expanded role by coaching girls team

Oglethorpe County girls soccer is under new management, but for juniors Madeline and Emily Forschler, it’s a familiar face.   Boys coach Erich Forschler, the father of Madeline and Emily, also will coach the girls team, as he pulls double duty.   “It’s been good,” Forschler said.

Junior All-Stars are second in tourney

Toccoa defeated the Oglethorpe County Junior League All-Stars 13-2 in the district championship game on Monday night.

OCHS athletes make all-region teams

The Oglethorpe County High School baseball team had eight players selected to all-region teams. The team finished 17-14 and second in Region 4-AA. The team hosted its first home playoff series since the 2002-2003 season.

Girls soccer determined to win region

The Oglethorpe County girls soccer team looks forward to building on last year’s success.   “We had a strong team last year, and I loved watching them grow,” coach Mary Kate Shealy said.

Commitment is key for OCHS boys soccer team

There are only three seniors on this year’s team, so Oglethorpe County boys soccer coach Erich Forschler said the focus is simple.   “​​There’s really two things that I’m harping on —  that everybody commits 100% and (that) they're there,” he said.
