The Georgia primary is coming up on May 24. Republican Board of Commission candidates Darius Tompkins and Howard Sanders (District 1) and Debbie Furbish (District 3) are challenging incumbents Phil Sanders (District 1) and David Clark (District 3).

News roundup: Trava’s restaurant closed for the summer

Trava’s Dog Gone Good Cafe’s location at 777 Athens Road is closed for the summer and will operate out of its food truck, according to its Facebook page.   There’s also a sign on the door of the restaurant stating that the restaurant is temporarily closed. The Facebook post was made on April 22.

Unusual worms rear ugly heads this spring

“I thought it was a type of snake!” Colbert’s Kelly Boltz Langendorfer said about the slimy, long creepy crawly residing in her barn. But the strange creature, although similar in appearance, wasn’t a snake at all — it was a worm.

Pre-K is key part of process at OCPS, OCA

Oglethorpe County teachers say they’ve seen significant improvements in students who have completed the county’s pre-K program.

Authorities are draining old quarry

The search for the remains of Jimmy Anglin in an abandoned, water-filled quarry was expected to resume on Wednesday, when officials were to have the necessary equipment on hand.   Anglin, a 27-year-old Oglethorpe County resident, went missing in November of 2017.

OCHS grad spreads music, inspiration to Athens area

Michael Brewer joined the Classic City Band, the oldest continuously functioning community band in Georgia, as a trombone player in 1984. Nearly three decades later, Brewer returned to CCB as a conductor, and has been performing for communities across Northeast Georgia ever since.
