Obituary: Natalie Starr Harper Toney

Natalie Starr Harper Toney, 95, of Athens, died on March 31, 2022.    She was born in Chicago on August 5, 1926. She came south as quickly as she could and never looked back. A graduate of Brenau College in 1948, Natalie joined her parents in running the Old Colony Motor Inn in Athens.

The funeral service was held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Randolph Baptist Church in Union Point, GA. Interment with Military Honors in the Harmonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Maxeys, GA.   Jones Funeral Chapel, LLC of Crawford was in charge of services.

Betty Jaqueline Paul Mathews passed peacefully into the arms of her lord at age of 92 on March 29, 2022. Betty was a native of Oglethorpe County. She was born on July 24, 1929 in Point Peter, GA to the late Mary Holloman Paul and Howard “Jack” Paul.

Mr. Guy Allmon Lance, 73, of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022.    He was the son of the late Boyce Patterson Lance, Sr. and Sara Bell Lance, and was also preceded in death by his brothers: Boyce Lance, Jr. and Chris Lance; and sister, Sara Dees.

Barry Hammond Hicks, Sr. died Wednesday, March 23, 2022.    Born in Athens, GA he was the son of the late Dr. Grady Bannister Hicks and Era Elvie Hammond Hicks. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Mary Frances Sherdan Hicks, his second wife Gloria Fay Hurst Hicks, son, Barry Hicks, Jr.

Obituary: Sherry Evelyn Elrod Godfrey

Mrs. Sherry Evelyn Elrod Godfrey, age 74, of Crawford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 24, 2022. Mrs. Godfrey was born in Buford to the late, Marvin and Katie Cantrell Elrod. Mrs. Godfrey was a supervisor for 27 years at Superior Pants.

Charlie Lamar Couch, age 41, of Royston passed away Monday, March 21, 2022.    He was born in Athens, April 11, 1980, son of Lonnie Boyd Couch and Cindy Jo Nelms. He was an avid fisherman and a dedicated Georgia Bulldogs Football fan.

Obituary: Patricia Tucker Bond

Patricia Tucker Bond, 78, of Watson Mill Road in Oglethorpe County passed away on March 22, 2022.    She was the daughter of the late Roy J. Tucker and Thelma Callaway Tucker, and a graduate of Oglethorpe County High School Class of 1961.
