Russell Smith has persevered through many obstacles to arrive at his best and final season with the Oglethorpe County baseball team.   From having to sit out his sophomore season to battling sickness and injuries as a junior, Smith was determined to make a comeback this season.

Baseball team beats Putnam County 9-3

Blane McFarland struck out nine batters to lead OCHS baseball to a 9-3 victory at Putnam County in Re- gion 4-AA action on Tuesday night.   McFarland allowed three runs in the first, but shut down the War Eagles after that.

Goddard sets personal bests to win long, triple jumps

Denim Goddard set two personal bests to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track team to a team victory in the Cook Holliday Rotary Relays at Winder-Barrow last Friday.   The Lady Patriots finished with 168 points, easily outdistancing second-place Loganville, which had 92 points.

Despite the new gym opening in January, Oglethorpe County appears to be outgrowing its recreation department facilities.   Registration numbers for football, basketball, soccer and baseball increased by 24% in just one year.
