Henderson looks to lead young girls team to playoffs

Freshman Kenzie Henderson is one of seven underclassmen preparing to lead the Oglethorpe County High School girls basketball team back to the state playoffs. After losing in the first round last year, the team will look to Henderson to be a young leader during the season.

Pittard, Huff bring young leadership to boys basketball

With a new head coach and plenty of young talent, the Oglethorpe County’s boys basketball team prepares for its first game this week. Following a difficult few years, the team will rely on underclassmen to help turn the program around.

High school to appeal region realignment

Oglethorpe County High School will appeal its realignment to Region 8-AA.   Athletic director Kris Patel said the appeal to the Georgia High School Association will be heard on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Patriots defeat Putnam, Winder in first home matches

Oglethorpe County opened its home schedule with two victories on Tuesday. The Patriots defeated Putnam County 72-18 and Winder-Barrow 72-9.   “All in all, it was a solid night,” coach Tim Stoudenmire said in an email.

Holland looks to build on his first football season

The Oglethorpe County football team, under first-year head coach Mike Holland,  concluded its season with a 24-7 loss against Westside-Augusta on Friday to finish 3-7 and 3-4 in Region 4-AA. They finished fifth in the final 4-AA standings, falling just short of the playoffs.

Lady Patriots fourth at state meet

Lizzie Wadsworth was 10th overall to lead the Oglethorpe County girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Class AA state meet at Carrollton High School on Nov. 5.   Wadsworth, a junior, had a time of 21:21.13 as Oglethorpe County finished with 169 points.

Q&A: Shealy leads OCHS volleyball team to best season in years

The Oglethorpe County High School volleyball team concluded its season last week in the first round of the state playoffs. First-year head coach Kate Shealy led the team to a record of 12-17, 6-5 in the region, its best conference record in the past five seasons.

OCHS cross country teams repeat, head to state

Winning the region is twice as nice for Oglethorpe County.   Both cross country teams advanced to the Class AA state meet after winning their respective Region 4-AA championships for the second consecutive season.

Move to running back pays off in 1,000-yard season for Brown

Senior running back Nate Brown surpassed 1,000 rushing yards during Oglethorpe County’s game on Friday against Laney. Despite the Patriots’ 30-14 loss, Brown rushed for 105 yards to bring his season total to 1,005.
