Patriots look to senior class for leadership

The Oglethorpe County football team will try to regroup after going 0-10 last season. The Patriots will rely heavily on senior leaders to push them toward success this fall.

Prep Roundup: Barner’s 2 hits, 2 RBIs spark win over Wilkes

Carolyn Barner had two hits and two RBIs, and Khloe Eidson added two hits to lead the Oglethorpe County softball team to a 6-3 victory over Washington-Wilkes on Tuesday in Lexington.  Reese Campbell was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts and no walks.  On Aug.

Small, but mighty

Aryana Knight is the shortest player on the Oglethorpe County volleyball team, but in a sport where height is significant, she’s learned to use her size to her advantage. Knight, at 4-foot-9, is the starting libero for the Patriots after Samantha Amos graduated last year.

Adams takes over as coach of OCHS cross country teams

The Oglethorpe County cross country teams are heading into the season with new head coach Brandon Adams.  Adams, a sixth grade social studies teacher at Oglethorpe County Middle School, has coached soccer but never cross country.

Softball core bolstered by youngsters

The OCHS softball team is adding six freshmen to the roster this season, to go with nine returning starters and four returners. Many of the players can play multiple positions, which adds to the team’s depth.

OCHS volleyball team gets ready for season

The Oglethorpe County volleyball team is starting what it hopes will become a new tradition this year. The Red vs. White Scrimmage will feature varsity and junior varsity players mixing up to play against each other on Aug. 1.  The first official practice will be Monday, Aug.

Summer workouts prepare Patriots for first practice

The Oglethorpe County football team will hit the field on Monday for its first official practice, but the Patriots have been working all summer. The Patriots have been “strongly encouraged” to attend optional practices since the beginning of June, coach Michael Holland said.

Major League all-stars finish second in district

The Oglethorpe County Major League all-star team finished as district runner-up last Friday morning in Hartwell.  Oglethorpe County needed one win to advance to the state tournament in Macon, but lost to Franklin County twice to end the season. “I was proud of them,” head coach Chuck Gabriel said.
