Prep Roundup: Pacheco goal sparks win

Reyes Pacheco scored and Dominic Piscitelli had an assist to lead the Oglethorpe County boys soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory over Prince Avenue on Monday.   Marin Sampson, Abby Cabaniss and Emily Forschler each scored goals to lead the OCHS girls team to a 4-1 victory over Prince Avenue.

Freeman makes impact in return to alma mater

George Gresham remembers coaching Maurice Freeman on the Oglethorpe County track and field team over a decade ago. So, when Freeman returned to Oglethorpe County, after a track career at the University of Georgia, Gresham was quite pleased.   “He came back,” Gresham said.

Sophomores show versatility, offensive production

Two sophomores have separated themselves during the Oglethorpe County baseball team’s 4-4 start.   Outfielders Haiden Ashworth and Mathew Martin are at the top of almost every offensive statistic for the Patriots: batting average, hits, runs and RBIs.

Prep Roundup: Ossick’s walkoff sac fly leads Pats to 2-1 win

Eli Ossick hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lead Oglethorpe County to a 2-1 victory over East Jackson on Tuesday night.   Austin Lowe scored the game-winning run and Eli Frost pitched a complete game for the win.

Winterville’s Dremann runs baseball program

  Cason Dremann wants to grow young boys into men beyond the sport of baseball by instilling life lessons into the game, on and off the field. That’s one of the reasons he founded the 706 Baseball Club.

Fishing options limited around county

Fishing in Oglethorpe County is popular, but it isn’t always the easiest task — unless you know private pond owners.    “There’s not a lot of public opportunity (to fish) in Oglethorpe County,” said local guide Brandon Colquitt, who grew up in Lexington and now lives in Sandy Cross.

Experienced coaches ready to guide track teams

Oglethorpe County’s track and field teams will need to rely on more than being coached by alumni to stand atop the podium at the end of the season. Ultimately, the both teams’ success will hinge on the athletes’ performances.

Stoudenmire retires from coaching

Tim Stoudenmire said it’s the right time for him to step away from coaching. He has retired as the Oglethorpe County wrestling coach and said he will retire as the girls track coach after this season ends. “When you know, you know,” he said Tuesday.

Prep Roundup: Wrestlers finish seventh at state

Tanner Mask and Paris Crowder finished third in their weight classes to lead Oglethorpe County to a seventh place finish at the Class A Traditional state championship last weekend in Macon. Miles Mason was fourth, and Caleb Hall and Nysir Witt were each fifth in the tournament.

Familiar faces return as coaches

Alex Orlowsky, Taylor Doherty and Armando Padilla had similar paths as Oglethorpe County soccer players. Now, they use their free time to help coach at the high school where they once played.
