Winterville’s Dremann runs baseball program

  Cason Dremann wants to grow young boys into men beyond the sport of baseball by instilling life lessons into the game, on and off the field. That’s one of the reasons he founded the 706 Baseball Club.

Fishing options limited around county

Fishing in Oglethorpe County is popular, but it isn’t always the easiest task — unless you know private pond owners.    “There’s not a lot of public opportunity (to fish) in Oglethorpe County,” said local guide Brandon Colquitt, who grew up in Lexington and now lives in Sandy Cross.

Experienced coaches ready to guide track teams

Oglethorpe County’s track and field teams will need to rely on more than being coached by alumni to stand atop the podium at the end of the season. Ultimately, the both teams’ success will hinge on the athletes’ performances.

Stoudenmire retires from coaching

Tim Stoudenmire said it’s the right time for him to step away from coaching. He has retired as the Oglethorpe County wrestling coach and said he will retire as the girls track coach after this season ends. “When you know, you know,” he said Tuesday.

Prep Roundup: Wrestlers finish seventh at state

Tanner Mask and Paris Crowder finished third in their weight classes to lead Oglethorpe County to a seventh place finish at the Class A Traditional state championship last weekend in Macon. Miles Mason was fourth, and Caleb Hall and Nysir Witt were each fifth in the tournament.

Familiar faces return as coaches

Alex Orlowsky, Taylor Doherty and Armando Padilla had similar paths as Oglethorpe County soccer players. Now, they use their free time to help coach at the high school where they once played.

Nine wrestlers headed to traditional state

Nine Oglethorpe County wrestlers qualified for the Class A Traditional Championships that start Thursday.   Seven of the 14 boys qualified for the state tournament, which is in Macon. Meanwhile, both girls who competed — seniors Chelsea Durie (145 pounds) and Zy Edwards (235) — qualified.

Jake Turner committed to play football at Berry over the weekend.   “The campus was beautiful when I went on my visit,” he said. “They have a very good football program and I know, if I go there, I’ll be competing for DIII conference and national championships.

Forschler takes on expanded role by coaching girls team

Oglethorpe County girls soccer is under new management, but for juniors Madeline and Emily Forschler, it’s a familiar face.   Boys coach Erich Forschler, the father of Madeline and Emily, also will coach the girls team, as he pulls double duty.   “It’s been good,” Forschler said.
