OCHS Camp roundup: wrestling camp scheduled next week

New Oglethorpe County wrestling coach Steve Mason has scheduled a beginner wrestling camp next week for boys and girls who will be in the sixth grade and lower with less than one year of wrestling experience. The camp will be held from 6:30-7:40 p.m.

Royston’s Roberson wins Maxeys Model Mile 5K

Travon Roberson, an 11-year-old from Royston, won the sixth annual Maxeys Model Mile 5K with a time of 16:29 on Saturday.  He was followed by Scotty Diesch of Athens, with a time of 17:11, and Domini Piscitelli of Colbert, with a time of 17:26.

Family ties: Oglethorpe sports, family are connected

When Mike Campbell was hired to take over the baseball program last June, Oglethorpe County High School Principal Bill Sampson knew he was the man for the job because Campbell shared a key value with the rest of the staff and community — “a commitment to family.

8u volleyball team has successful first season

Lady Pats win third track and field title in four years

Zy Edwards couldn’t believe what she was watching.   She saw Kenzie Henderson come from 50 meters behind and sprint past a competitor in the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay final at the Class A Division I meet on Saturday.

Shotgun team takes aim at state match

Twice a week, the piercing sounds of fired ammunition echo through the fields surrounding the Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Office.   A few hundred yards behind the building, a dirt road leads to the practice site for the Oglethorpe County’s 4-H senior shotgun team.

Oglethorpe County football staff faces changes

Oglethorpe County’s football staff has undergone a shakeup.   Assistant coach Daniel Eubanks will have a different responsibility in the fall and fellow assistant Matt Beyatt is leaving the program.

Patriots test new players during spring football practice

Pads have started popping as the Oglethorpe County football team has kicked off spring practice to prepare for this season.    Following a 4-7 season that resulted in a first-round playoff exit to Elbert County, coach Mike Holland is excited to compete in a realigned region.
