Hunters take 3,650 deer from county this season

Oglethorpe County has once again solidified its place as one of Georgia’s top counties for deer hunting, ranking fifth for total deer harvested in 2024-25.

Smithonia couple has dream trip to Paris, Olympics

 While most of the world watched from their couches as Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky and Stephen Nedoroscik competed for gold, Jane and John Robertson were in the stands at the Summer Olympics cheering them on.

Prep Roundup: Girls track rolls in region tune-up meet

Elin Turner won the 100-meter hurdles and the 800 meters to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track team to victory in the Lincoln County Region Tune-up meet on April 18.

Stoudenmire will leave lasting legacy

When Tim Stoudenmire retires from coaching this spring, there will be a noticeable absence in the Oglethorpe County athletic department and around the area.   “This area is losing a giant,” said Philip Walter, Stoudenmire’s former assistant wrestling coach at Clarke Central.

Prep Roundup: Girls soccer wins 3-2

Marin Sampson, Eve Myers and Khloe Eidson scored goals to lead the Oglethorpe County girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Jasper County on April 8.   The Lady Patriots trailed 2-1 before rallying for the victory.     Emily Forschler assisted on the goals.

Zy’Kieria Edwards’ work ethic and leadership help make her a dominant two-sport athlete.   “She’s one of the hardest workers I’ve coached since I’ve been at Oglethorpe,” head girls track and field coach Tim Stoudenmire said.

Prep Roundup: Martin’s three RBIs lead Patriots past Cedar

Mathew Martin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two steals to lead Oglethorpe County to a 12-2, five-inning victory over Cedar Shoals in Lexington on March 25.    Evans Wilkins, Eli Ossick, Caleb Hall and Bryce Frankel had two hits each for the Patriots, who had 14 hits to improve to 8-8.

Prep Roundup: Girls track team off to strong start

Denim Goddard and Zy’Kieria Edwards each won two individual events to lead the Oglethorpe County girls track team to a victory in the Loch Johnson Invitational at Cedar Shoals on March 16.    The Lady Panthers won the event with 155 points to outdistance Towers, which had 122 points.

Prep Roundup: Ossick’s walkoff sac fly leads Pats to 2-1 win

Eli Ossick hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lead Oglethorpe County to a 2-1 victory over East Jackson on Tuesday night.   Austin Lowe scored the game-winning run and Eli Frost pitched a complete game for the win.
