Compton, Mckie spark wrestlers to third place

Walker Compton, a freshman, and Tanner Mckie, a senior, led the Oglethorpe County wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Campbell Spartan Duals on Saturday.  Compton and Mckie were both undefeated as the Patriots defeated Blessed Trinity 56-11, Wheeler 66-0 and Johns Creek 33-29.

OCHS girls wrestlers shine at area duals

Emily Gregory, Akira Owens and Alyson Woods each went 2-0 to lead the Oglethorpe County girls wrestling team to second place at the Area 3 Division II duals. The Patriots advanced to the state duals preliminary at Lumpkin County on Wednesday, after The Echo’s deadline this week.

The Oglethorpe County cross country team advanced to the Class A Division I state meet after finishing sixth out of 21 teams at the Class A sectionals at Jeff Davis High School on Saturday.  John Adams was sixth in 17:23.30, followed by Cory Tillman in 19th at 19:09.80. Josiah Young was 46th (19:26.

Prep Roundup: Playoff opponent unknown until after final week

Oglethorpe County is heading to Class A Division I playoffs, but the Patriots’ seeding and opponent won’t be decided until after Friday’s regular-season finales. “I think when we looked at it, there were about six possibilities,” coach Michael Holland said Monday.

The Oglethorpe County volleyball team reached the Elite 8 for the second consecutive year.  The Patriots, who are seeded third in the Class A tournament, advanced through the first two rounds with victories over Commerce and Armuchee last week.

OCHS softball nears playoffs The regular season is winding down for the Oglethorpe County softball team. The Patriots dropped a 13-3 decision to Elbert County on Tuesday to fall to 12-7 and 8-2 in Region 8-A Division I.

Prep Roundup: Track athletes advance to Class A Div. I meet

Oglethorpe County will send 22 athletes — 11 boys and 11 girls — to the Class A Division I state track and field meet at Rome on Friday and Saturday. The OCHS girls will try to defend their 2024 title, which was their third in four years.
