Obituary: Jane B. Ridgeway

Jane B. Ridgeway passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at her home on Salem Church Road.  She was born in Ocilla, Ga on Feb. 6, 1938. She was the first child of Zelda Tucker Buckman and John Hamilton Buckman, Jr. The family moved to Oglethorpe County when Jane was 2.

Deborah Gene Crowe (Coulson) rose into the arms of Jesus on July 13, 2024.  She was the loving wife of Dr. Dennis Tim Crowe Jr., Mother of Mike (Stephanie) Crowe and Kristin (Eric) Johnson and Gram to Makayla, Anna and Ella Crowe and Luke, Zach and Eliza Johnson.

Jerome (Jerry) Alexander III passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. His strength and resilience through such a difficult journey was inspiring.

Obituary: Larry Gene Watkins

Larry Gene Watkins, 60, of Athens, died June 24, 2024. The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at Jones Funeral Chapel in Crawford, with Bishop Anthony Turner, eulogist.  Interment was in Athens Memory Gardens.

Obituary: James Edward Smith Sr.

James Edward Smith Sr., “Little Doc,” from the Enterprise Community, went home to see his Mama on July 8, 2024, following an extended illness.  James was born on May 12, 1946. He was the youngest child of James Daniel and Ruby Peterman Smith.

Obituary: Lois Sylvia Sanders

Lois Sylvia Sanders, 89, of Crawford, died Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Born in Jackson County to Winston and Ruby White, Sylvia grew up in Winder, where she married her first husband, Roger House, with whom she had her only son, Donny.

Obituary: Julia Hardman Colquitt

Julia Hardman Colquitt, a beloved member of the community, died July 2, 2024, at the age of 95.  She was born on June 22, 1929, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, to her late parents Julius Albert and Agnes Mae Harris Hardman.

Obituary: Frederick Jerome Bolton

Frederick Jerome Bolton, 61, of Athens, died June 14, 2024. A graveside funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4 at Jennings Cemetery, with Pastor Margaret Arnold, eulogist. Interment was following the service.

Obituary: Louise Moon Looper

Louise Moon Looper, 86, of Atlanta, died June 18, 2024. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Carlton, with Pastor Wyman McElroy Jr., eulogist. Internment was in the church cemetery.
