Samuel Mitchell, 59, of Lexington, died May 23, 2024. The funeral service was at noon, Thursday, May 30 at New Springhill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Reginald Hunter, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery. Survivors include his parents, K.C.

Johnny W. “JoWally” Taylor, 72, of Athens, formerly of Oglethorpe County, died May 14, 2024. The funeral service was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at Fork Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clarence Burgess. eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Jace Z. Stokes, 3 months, died May 17, 2024. Balloons were released in his memory. Survivors include his mother, Erin Brightwell; father, Antonio Stokes; siblings, Antonio Stokes Jr.

Obituary: Alvin Hank Massey

Alvin Hank Massey, 76, of Flowery Branch, died Monday, May 20, 2024 at his residence. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 at Memorial Park South Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Osteen officiating.

Obituary: Charlotte Daniel Keeble

Charlotte Daniel Keeble, 75, of Lavonia, died Friday, April 26, 2024 at her home. Born May 31, 1948, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Warren Felder “Bud” and Martha (Morrison) Daniel.  She graduated from Oglethorpe County High School and attended North Georgia College.

Laishaun Woods, 24, of Lexington, died May 8, 2024.  The funeral service was noon Saturday, May 18 at Thankful Baptist Church, Stephens, with Pastor Dwight Sims, eulogist. Interment was in the Pope Cemetery.

Gail A. Heard, 64, of Comer died May 9, 2024.  The funeral service was 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at Thankful Grove Baptist Church in Carlton, with Pastor Ronald Gantt, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Obituary: Nora Mae Smith Grimes

Mrs. Nora Mae Smith Grimes, 90, of Carlton, died on Friday, May 17, 2024. Grimes was born in Pendleton, South Carolina, on Aug. 2, 1933, the daughter of the late Luther James Smith and Carrie Ethel Melissa Pinion Smith.

Minister Larry James Smith, 55, of Athens died May 5, 2024. The service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at Friendship Baptist Church, 421 Old Stephens Road, Lexington.   The Rev. Clarence Burgess officiated.

Obituary: Henry Jackson Norman

Henry Jackson (Jack) Norman, 83, died May 10, 2024 in Arnoldsville. Born on Oct. 5, 1940, to the late Willie Ralph Norman and Xavier Dudley Norman, Norman was a dedicated family man and a pillar of strength to his family as well as his community.
